What’s your background? Career aspirations?
After graduating high school, I enlisted in the US Air Force. I served for six years as a Security Forces troop and two years in Cyber Systems Operations. In the last year of my enlistment, I enrolled in the Cybersecurity Bachelor’s program at the University of Maryland University College. In my second semester, I began working with a small IT security consulting and project management firm. Since becoming a consultant, I have worked in various IT and security related fields for various government and non-profit organizations. Ultimately, I would like to become an independent executive consultant specializing in the field of emergency preparedness and disaster recovery. However, I have also considered making a career change into non-profit work. Currently, I volunteer for multiple veteran service organizations and would like to spend more time contributing to those efforts.
What triggered your job search? What drew you to Seen?
I feel as though I’m looking for a new position every six months to a year. As a consultant/contractor, I’m at the mercy of a contract. Every time I take a new position, the contract only ever seems to be in place for two years at the most. This is why I never actually stop looking for roles. Even when employed full-time, I continue to consider other roles and have conversations with recruiters. One of the most challenging aspects of searching for a job are the various requirements for completing an application. Every website and employer seem to have their own unique requirements. I have had to develop multiple resumes, in different formats, as well as a significant number of cover letters. When I received an email requesting that I sign up for Seen, I was skeptical at first, but am so grateful I did.
How did Seen ease your job search?
Seen was a game changer for me. I didn’t have to go looking for positions to apply to. Instead, recruiters came directly to me, already knowing my credentials. While you may occasionally get an email or LinkedIn message from one recruiter or another; Seen brought it all together in one place. Not only was I being contacted regularly, but all of the communications were stored in the same location. The website is seamless and the interface is beautifully simple.
What excites you most about your new role?
I have been wanting to get back into this kind of work for years, and I am really looking forward to being able to build more experience in this field. Given that my ultimate career goal is to become an expert in this field, being in my current role will only help to catapult me towards that goal.
