What’s your background? Career aspirations?
I’m a well rounded developer having been involved in different aspects of software development. Given my recent positions working on software back-end and database systems as well as an education in mathematics, I feel like my aspirations lie somewhere between back-end systems development, data management, and machine learning.
What triggered your job search? What drew you to Seen?
I started looking for new opportunities because I wanted to find a company that I can learn and grow with. I was working for a great employer at the time but felt that I was approaching the limits of my growth and learning there. My biggest frustration during the job search process had to do with making myself stand out in a crowd of applicants and dealing with recruiter spam that often comes with some of the other job search platforms. I chose Seen because it seemed to cater more to job seekers in my position, I was able to pick and choose which skills to advertise and what type of companies/industries I would be visible to.
How did Seen ease your job search?
In my case, the employer reached out to me. By the time I was contacted, I felt like they already knew a bit about me from what I had on my Indeed profile. Right off the bat, we were able to talk about where my skills fit within the company. I can’t count the number of times I’ve had to repeat myself, recount my experiences, and explain why I would make a good fit to a recruiter/screener.
What excites you most about your new role?
I’ll be doing (hopefully) what I love, at a company that is in the most exciting stage of its development. The learning and growth opportunities are only limited to the amount of time in the day.
Tips for fellow tech job seekers?
When putting together your profile, it helps to be as specific as possible. Pick and chose skills that will give the candidate seeker a good idea of where you would fit in in their role/organization.
