What’s your background? Career aspirations?
I worked for a company for 21 years straight out of school in the telecom space. Most of my time was spent working on desktop phone sets either creating firmware or controlling from a call controller or application. I have been working remotely for the past 18 years, and I really wanted to keep working remotely because it worked so well for me for focus and work-life balance.
What triggered your job search? What drew you to Seen?
Well one day out of the blue I was called into a meeting with my manager, and I was informed that I was being laid of after 20+ years of service, without cause due to restructuring. It was shocking, but I quickly got over the shock and got down to business preparing to get a new job. I struggled with the balance of learning new technology versus applying to jobs versus networking with people in the field versus trying to replace employee benefits which were quickly coming to an end. My wife was Googling jobs and came across the Seen service, and she said that I should try it. Luckily for me, I listened to her and set up my profile.
How did Seen ease your job search?
I liked that the employers came to us. This way if they reached out to us, they were already very interested in us, and it was a high value opportunity. I felt that had a unique background, and that given enough exposure to employers, I would get a good match.
What excites you most about your new role?
I am super excited about working in a much smaller company where I feel like I will be able to really make a difference. My colleagues and management at the company are very friendly and exceptionally talented. Another positive note is that the technology in use is cutting edge which is very good to help everyone stay up to date.
