What’s your background? Career aspirations?
I worked as various trade technicians until going to college for Electrical Engineering and switching to Computer Science.
What triggered your job search? What drew you to Seen?
My commute was way too far. The most challenging part of the job search is having to repeatedly fill in identical forms for various positions. Seen seemed like a way to fix that repetitive task and let companies contact me if they felt a fit.
How did Seen ease your job search?
Seen significantly eased the job search by allowing companies to approach you with interest instead of the other way around. This had the main effect of allowing lesser known companies to be seen as opposed to only recruiters looking to act as a gatekeeper for the job and skim off anyone they recruit.
What excites you most about your new role?
The project I am set to work on seems to be a very interesting problem that has the ability to reach a large number of people. Also a significantly shorter commute, more flexible hours, etc.
Tips for fellow tech job seekers?
Save time with Seen. Network in college or attend some meetups/events in your area. The hands you shake are more important than the grades you make. Don’t sell yourself short. For anything software/IT, you should be compensated according to your local market. NEVER accept a lower salary than what you’re worth.
