What’s your background? Career aspirations?
I am a University of Michigan CS grad. I worked as a software developer for a small startup healthcare company for 3 years.
What triggered your job search? What drew you to Seen?
I was working for a smaller firm and I wanted to try working for a bigger firm. I felt like it was hard for me to learn new things and I wanted to broaden my horizons. My brother recommended Seen to me, so I tried it out.
How did Seen ease your job search?
I like that many companies contacted me, though I did not actually want to work for a majority of them. There were a few companies I would have never applied to on my own, some of which I liked. This search was unique because companies came to me instead of the other way. I feel like my resume could get lost when applying to other companies.
What excites you most about your new role?
I’m really excited to work with a wide range of departments. I was looking for a role that included programming but also had the flexibility to improve my other skills.
Tips for fellow tech job seekers?
Don’t get discouraged. I was rejected from 10-15 companies and didn’t make it to first round with several others. Just keep studying. You can always improve, maybe you won’t be the best, but you can improve. Interview with companies you might not want to work with. Either it’s good practice or, sometimes, the company can surprise you. For programming interviews try tools like HackerRank and CodeSignal to improve your capabilities.
