What’s your background? Career aspirations?
What triggered your job search? What drew you to Seen?
I allowed myself to become too comfortable at my first job, waiting until I had completed my Master’s degree before risking destabilizing my life with a career change. By the time I was ready to move, I realized I had allowed my company to pay me far lower than my true value. Seen allowed me to put myself out in the job market in a way that made potential employers competitive, avoiding the difficulties of getting low-balled because of prior salary. In addition to getting paid fairly, I was also able to consider multiple offers and choose the company that fits my desired lifestyle best. In my case, working from home would save me time and money and provide the flexibility to work where and when I want. This facilitates me working on my personal projects and continuing to dabble in tech.
How did Seen ease your job search?
Seen helps by giving you genuinely interested employers almost immediately. You don’t find yourself on some long list along with hundreds of other applicants. Employers choose you because they see your qualifications and you are a good fit for the role. The interviews become more of a formality to ensure you really do have the skills you say you do and a personality that will be productive with the team. This comes with the caveat that you will tend to get offers for jobs similar experience-wise to what you have done in the past. In my case, this was fine, because the increased freedom of remote work will allow me to better fit side-projects into my life, and I can gain necessary experience to facilitate future career moves.
What excites you most about your new role?
I’m most excited about the increased flexibility in my schedule and pay increase. But that’s not to say the job itself isn’t also exciting. Treverity will provide me a chance to engage with a larger software team than I have in the past, allowing me to learn from people with more experience and giving me an opportunity to share what I’ve learned and apply it to the job.
Tips for fellow tech job seekers?
If you’re in software and you have some experience, you are valuable. You can afford to be choosy and really try to figure out what you want out of a job. Seen gives you the tools to do this without having to get sucked into one of the big five tech companies and without having to settle for scraps.
