What’s your background? Career aspirations?

I studied CS in undergrad and worked for 3.5 years with a very niche tech stack in a market I was not interested in. I knew I wanted to work in modern web applications, but hadn’t touched the web since college. I decided to voluntarily leave my job, so I could invest 2 months into learning all I could about modern JavaScript. I completed a few small projects, read books about JS and worked through different online video tutorials. This reinvigorated my desire to be a software engineer.

What triggered your job search? What drew you to Seen?

The job search took a good bit longer than I expected. My biggest hurdle was convincing a hiring manager to invest in me. I had no professional experience in web application development, but I knew I could learn it quickly. I just needed a shot. The other big challenge was moving to a new city during the middle of the search. I no longer had a network, so that is why I decided to try Seen.

How did Seen ease your job search?

My experience was positive, but limited. The only interview I took from Seen turned into my job!  I totally loved that it was passive. Once I set up my profile, I did not have to keep searching and applying.

What excites you most about your new role?

I get to continue to learn and master the technology I am most interested in, and I will get to help grow and develop a small team.

Tips for fellow tech job seekers?

Don’t stop seeking, even if an opportunity feels positive. So many things can happen that are out of your control, but cause the opportunity to evaporate.
