What’s your background? Career aspirations?
I grew up in the Chicago suburbs and went to Indiana University for CS. I thought I wanted to be a developer. I got hired by GM and got placed in an Ops role in Austin, TX. After a couple years experience I was ready to move on to a smaller company with more responsibilities. My career goal is to be an executive in a tech company.
What triggered your job search? What drew you to Seen?
I decided to start searching for a new job because I was ready for a change of scenery. It also coincided with a re-org at GM. I felt that that re-org was a good sign that it was my time to exit.
How did Seen ease your job search?
I was on Seen twice this year. The first time I didn’t receive a single contact. The second time was much more successful. I got a few interviews out of it, and one led to a job. It really was a great tool because I never would have found any of the companies that contacted me, but many of them were very exciting prospects.
What excites you most about your new role?
I have more responsibilities and I’m in a smaller organization. It seems like I’ll have a bit of room to influence future decisions, which is exciting.
Tips for fellow tech job seekers?
Make sure that you know what role you’re looking for, but be prepared to adapt to what an employer needs.
