What’s your background? Career aspirations?
I was a management consultant and 10 years ago went back to school to learn software engineering. That was the best career decision I ever made. I have been so happy being a software engineer.
What triggered your job search? What drew you to Seen?
I first needed to find a new job in Austin two years ago because of a relocation from California for family reasons. I took the best job at that time. After about a year, I realized I wanted a different software engineering experience and a company with a better culture.
How did Seen ease your job search?
Seen was fantastic. Submitting my profile and resume was very easy. I received some real coaching on shortening my resume. I was able to accurately portray my skills so I knew that I was a skill fit for the companies that contacted me. All scheduling went through the Seen system which made for less chance of error. Also, it seemed that the companies were a little more serious.
What excites you most about your new role?
My new company has the things that are most important to me (culture, people, process, teamwork, tools). I am excited about working in that team environment.
Tips for fellow tech job seekers?
Practice the case and whiteboard questions. It does not take much to get respectable at solving the problems. Also, practice answering questions to someone else out loud. It’s much different than just answering the questions in your head. Look beyond just the paycheck and look at the culture and team—those will be things that make you like the job.
