What’s your background? Career aspirations?
I’ve been building full stack Java applications for the last few year. Recently began working with React and several other modern front-end technologies and decided that I wanted to focus further developing those skills.
What triggered your job search? What drew you to Seen?
I was feeling stifled in the company at which I was working. We had iterated over the same app several times for different geographic regions and it was feeling repetitive. Compensation had also began to lag compared to the market and when discussed with leadership, it was clear that no changes were in the foreseeable future.
How did Seen ease your job search?
It was pretty easy to get conversations started. In fact, it was almost too easy.
What excites you most about your new role?
I get to play with new front- and back-end technologies at a company that seems open to change and eager to succeed. I’m also surrounded by people that share the same ambition and goals as I do.
Tips for fellow tech job seekers?
Be ready for the flood. I would brush up on basic algorithm knowledge. Be ready to provide concrete examples of individual contributions (as opposed to team accomplishments). If you have time, take interviews with companies you might not normally consider. At worst, it’s interview experience that will prep you for the job you really want. At best, you find the job you want that you didn’t know you wanted.
