What’s your background? Career aspirations?
I was an information science major and my first few roles centered around app development, or leading a team of app developers. From there my roles evolved more into emerging technology and innovation, culminating more in full technology portfolio management. I love being on the forefront of the technology wave and would love to be working for a company that both gives me the flexibility to both govern our technological direction, while also still allowing me to get my hands dirty with the latest and greatest from time to time.
What triggered your job search? What drew you to Seen?
I have been working for a company in another state for the last 10 years, and while my son was young, the flexibility of working remotely was wonderful, but as time went on I truly relished getting back into an office setting in which I could collaborate more closely with my peers. I think that the biggest frustration and/or challenge was just the sheer number of jobs that were out there and how “methodical and de-humanized” the application process has become. I decided to try Seen because, by allowing companies to reach out to me, it meant that we would be having the dialog up front to determine if something would be a good fit, versus just electronically submitting an application, never sure if you were even going to get a response back.
How did Seen ease your job search?
Seen was a game-changer for me. Instead of just submitting an application electronically, never sure if you were even going to hear anything back, Seen added the human element back into the job search. By allowing interested companies to reach out to me, it forced a dialog to occur early in the process to see if the fit would be right for both of us. The job search today has become so methodical, and the sheer number of jobs that would appear in my searches made it very hard to truly narrow down to those that actually met my criteria and for which I think I would be a good fit.
What excites you most about your new role?
I am very excited to be in a position in which I know that the effort that I put forth will truly have an impact in helping to grow the company and our product/s. I am excited to be in a role that will not only allow me to shape the technical direction of our company, but also will allow me to get my hands dirty and continue to learn and build my skills.
Tips for fellow tech job seekers?
Don’t get frustrated. While it might feel overwhelming at first, just keep at it. I am truly indebted to Seen for putting the human element back into the job search, allowing me to have meaningful conversations up front about possible opportunities, versus just sending resumes out into what can feel like a black hole…not sure if you are going to receive any response at all.
