What’s your background? Career aspirations?
I have been in the cybersecurity industry for almost four years now, and I have worked for a variety of environments (corporate, consultancy, and government contracting). When I finished university, I didn’t expect to end up in a vulnerability management role. My degree was in Computer Forensics and System Security, so I thought my career path would be more alone those lines. However, after getting a job for a security company carrying out vulnerability scanning, I have been focused in the vulnerability management area ever since!
What triggered your job search? What drew you to Seen?
I have been passively looking for a new opportunity since the beginning of this year due to a lack of career growth at my current company. The company wanted to hire new people into higher positions. Also, my landlord decided to sell the property I live in. I am currently renting which helped me decide to start actively looking for a new job . I started applying for new jobs, which required creating an account on each company’s website. I found it frustrating to keep track of all of the accounts and also wasting time completing applications for companies that may not even be interested in me! I decided to try Seen, as it looked like a great option. It allowed me to complete just one application. All I had to do was enter in my experience, skills and education and give Seen a bit of information about what I am looking for in a new position. This cut down on me having to apply on a company’s website directly, and if they were interested in me they would contact me directly instead of me having to filter through thousands of jobs online.
How did Seen ease your job search?
I found that Seen was a great tool to find a job. I got multiple interviews within the first few weeks of submitting my Seen application, and I was dealing directly with the company’s recruiters instead of a 3rd party recruiter. It was very easy to use and I would definitely recommend it to people within the tech industry, as I was able to find a new position at a great company within a month of using Seen.
What excites you most about your new role?
The company seems like a very cool place to work. Everybody I spoke to during the interview process was very personable and friendly and seemed to be excited about cybersecurity compared to other companies I have worked for.
Tips for fellow tech job seekers?
Don’t be afraid to tell the interviewer that you do not know something! There were multiple questions that I didn’t know the answer to during a couple of my interviews. However, that didn’t stop them from wanting to set up another interview with me. If you are willing to learn and are open and honest, you will do well in your interview!
