What’s your background? Career aspirations?
I was a self-taught developer coming off two bad experiences. I had broken into the industry 18 months ago after a career change. My first position ended poorly after 13 months, my next position was so bad I walked away after 8 weeks.I was looking for a stable position where I could learn and grow as a developer. A company I would enjoy working for, one that appreciated my background.
What triggered your job search? What drew you to Seen?
I spent a lot of time applying on my own. I averaged more than a phone screen a week for three months. I chose Seen because I wanted to be available to more opportunities. Plus, it helped that companies would be reaching out to me, rather than me sending another application off into space.
How did Seen ease your job search?
Seen connected me with about four companies. Two were viable opportunities, one hired me and the other we discovered a difference in mindset after having a phone screen.
What excites you most about your new role?
I am finally in a position where I feel my talents and history are appreciated by my employer. I feel like I finally have more than a job, a temporary fill-in while I wait around to find something better. I’ve landed somewhere I think I can stay for a long time.
Tips for fellow tech job seekers?
Never give up. Push yourself, give it your all. It looks like it will never work out until it finally does. Have a sales pitch about yourself. Have talking points rehearsed so you can segue into them during phone calls and interviews.
