What you’ll do on a typical day:
Design and develop new software by applying techniques of computer science, engineering and mathematical analysis to satisfy the objectives stated in business requirements
Collaborate with architects to develop new software using documented process and logic patterns, programming language constructs, data storage methods and operating environment interfaces
Deploy and implement fully-tested software solutions
Guide developers in embracing improvements, new patterns and constructs
Participate in developing appropriate programs and systems documentation according to established department standards; follow industry-standard methodologies, techniques and XPO’s processes to deliver improved solutions
Evaluate the proper functioning and performance of software components using repeatable, reproducible and reportable software testing methodologies
Install and upgrade software development tools
What you need to succeed at XPO:
At a minimum, you’ll need:
Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering or related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
2 years of software engineering experience, preferably in medium to large corporate environments or with commercial software companies
Knowledge of industry standard IDEs (Eclipse, Visual Studio for Unix, Java and Windows)
Understanding and knowledge of tools for configuration management, such as Ansible, Chef, Fabric, Puppet or SaltStack
Hands-on experience in Containers using tools such as Docker, Vagrant and Kubernetes
Knowledge of standard methodologies and IT operations
It’d be great if you also have:
Availability to work occasional extended hours, including weekends, to meet project landmarks or to resolve production issues
3 years of software solutions development experience for large or medium commercial software companies or corporate environments
Ability to learn and understand functionality of event-driven business models; quickly achieve and learn skills in unfamiliar software applications
Proficiency in Windows applications and Microsoft Office, including Project, PowerPoint, Visio and SharePoint
Understanding and working knowledge of Java programming language, SQL and scripting languages
Strong aptitude for understanding and analyzing large amounts of data from multiple sources
Knowledge of transportation management software
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to present clean, organized and thorough information and data appropriate for intended audience
Ambitious and able to work well with minimal supervision or in a team environment; ability to maintain confidential and sensitive materials and information
