Progeny is seeking a mid to senior level electrical engineer to lead the Torpedo Systems Group (TSG) team responsible for the design, development, production, integration and life cycle support of embedded systems used aboard U.S. Navy submarines, ships, and aircraft. The TSG designs, develops, demonstrates, produces, assembles, tests and delivers torpedo SONAR arrays and electronic assemblies. The TSG team works with the Navy, internal production staff and the representatives from other companies to advance torpedo performance and lower production costs.
Duties and Responsibilities
Lead a team comprised of design, system engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and production associates to develop embedded systems. Responsibilities include:
• Design simulate, and implement embedded systems
• Perform component and architecture trade studies to determine optimal system solutions
• Document and present trade studies, analyses, test results, status, etc. to the team
• Generate design and interface documentation
• Design and develop software and firmware for embedded processor and FPGA based systems
• Integrate, test, troubleshoot, and verify hardware & firmware
• Develop test criteria and assist in the design of test systems including test software applications
• Develop technical presentations, recommendations, and written communications to explain technical issues to program management and the Navy customer team.
Skills & Requirements
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Candidates should have effective leadership skills, technical acumen, an educational background and expertise (experience preferred) in analog systems design, development and troubleshooting;
Experience in embedded systems design; Working knowledge of digital circuit design;
Experience in FPGA design, VHDL design and verification.
Xilinx development environment, and soft-core processors, schematic entry using OrCAD Capture, analog signal conditioning, data acquisition, and power regulators a plus.
Strong documentation and writing skills;
be able to rapidly adapt to handling electronic system technical issues found in system integration labs, field environments and during production:
be able to steadily develop knowledge/expertise across the various tactical baselines and platforms.
Successful candidates will be reliable, motivated and be able to lead engineering teams.
Understanding of systems and electronics troubleshooting skills.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
B.S (or higher) degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field (or equivalent experience) is required.
Greater than 5 years of engineering experience required.
This position requires the applicant to obtain and maintain a DoD Clearance.
