The IT Manager is the front-line and/or second-line leader of a specific technology team within the IT department. The IT Manager has budget responsibility. This position is responsible to ensure standard policies, processes, and guidelines are defined, understood, and followed. This position will periodically lead initiatives or small projects. This positon leads the development and maintenance of various technology roadmaps.
The IT Manager is responsible for:
Understanding business strategies and goals and determining ways to utilize technology solutions to accomplish these goals
Establishing and meeting budgets
Addressing and assigning duties related to day-to-day tasks and issues
Implementing process improvements
Establishing and managing activity priorities
Defining and monitoring performance metrics
Resolving escalated issues
Mentoring and coaching teammates’ growth in responsibility and capability
Creating technology roadmaps and strategic plans
Lead a group of IT teammates and/or IT supervisors supporting a technology area within IT
Communicate effectively in all directions as the representative of the technology area
Establish working relationships at all levels with internal and external parties demonstrating the ability to build trust
Approve and monitor the reporting teammates’ written annual objectives; provide feedback
Ensure teammates attain Individual Development Plan (IDP) goals by providing opportunities for training, expanded experience, and new responsibilities
Assure adherence to policy, procedure, and documentation requirements
Provide constructive feedback, coaching, and mentoring to team members
Establish and maintain formal resource plans to communicate team capacity and availability
Use problem-solving, conflict resolution, and negotiation skills to clarify priorities and satisfy internal customers
Leverage MPS principles to restore flow and to increase process efficiency and effectiveness
Create and maintain technical roadmaps and strategic plans for assigned areas of responsibility supporting business strategy and goals
Attend meetings with other areas of the business as needed to facilitate planning, project support, and cross functional collaboration with resources outside the direct team
Promote unity by helping everyone feel included, valued, and respected
Maintain technology and trend awareness for area of responsibility
Ensure there is adequate coverage and cross training for technical tools, services, and responsibilities within the team
Establish specific budgets and contribute to the development of the overall IT budget
Negotiate vendor-provided products and services
Review and approve technology evaluations and recommendations
