Verisign enables the security, stability, and resiliency of key internet infrastructure and services, including providing root zone maintainer services, operating two of the 13 global internet root servers, and providing registration services and authoritative resolution for the .com and .net top-level domains, which support the majority of global e-commerce.
The Provisioning Operations System Administrator is an essential role ensuring that the registry systems operated by Verisign are healthy, monitored, automated, and meeting our stringent performance and availability SLAs.
The candidate will be a key contributor in providing 24x7 system administration support of mission-critical services supporting Verisign's Naming Provisioning Operations environments and will work with a wide range of leading-edge technologies and hardware to deliver exceptional performance to our customers.
The ideal candidate is passionate about the Operations role, knowing the products supported deeply and managing OLTP applications in a multi-data center environment.
Installs, maintains and configures production, staging and quality assurance environments to support Verisign's Provisioning services. Environments include servers, operating systems, storage devices, and applications software.
Coordinates with other technical staff to implement systems and software.
Interfaces with Engineering, PMO, Customer Service, Business and other Operations organizations.
Documents processes, procedures, configurations and deployment plans.
Performs daily operations support functions, including problem troubleshooting, resolution and monitoring.
Creates monitoring and automation to streamline the management of the applications supported.
Participates in an on-call rotation.
Education and experience:
BS in Computer Science, Engineering or related field or equivalent work experience
8+ years of experience administering systems in a multi-data center OLTP production environment
Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux or equivalent UNIX OS
Experience supporting UNIX OS level configurations for enterprise networking and storage technologies
Proficiency with UNIX utilities and scripting (Perl, Python, Shell, Expect, etc.)
Experience with automating production processes and procedures
Experience documenting work tasks and changes in tools such as Jira or Service Now
Experience collaborating with groups outside operations such as QA, Development and Project Management
Experience with automation tools such as Ansible, Terraform, and/or Saltstack
Experience with IBM Hardware Management Console, PowerVM, PowerHA
Experience with integration of new systems into existing workflows and architectures
Rudimentary knowledge of SQL queries
Experience with TCP/IP networking, including Ethernet, IP addressing & subnetting, routing, and network troubleshooting
Experience with version control systems, preferably Git
Ability to understand complex problems and provide solutions
Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to work in teams
Strong troubleshooting skills
Familiarity with Agile Methodology principals
Experience with continuous integration software tools such as Jenkins
Understanding of DNS
