The NOC Systems Administrator is responsible for planning, designing, implementing and
maintaining a logical and stable network management solution for an extremely large
enterprise.  This NOC Systems Administrator will also oversee and monitor network systems on
a day-to-day operational level joining other team members within the NOC. This role will
establish a future path for all network management solutions.
 Monitors and controls all infrastructure, including local and wide area networks.
 Monitors protocol compatibility, performs system tuning, and makes recommendations
for improvement
 Act as first responder to issues with Linux servers hosted on VMware hypervisors
 Troubleshoot SQL databases and write SQL queries
 Troubleshoot and improve existing scripts written in BASH and Python
 Participates in the implementation of system installations and ensures network
 Identifies abnormal device behavior and ensuring proper ticket generation
 Assisting or Performing security analysis tasks
 Performing configuration compliance activities
 Performing configuration comparison activities
 Implementing new data collection routines as needed (mcache tables, routing tables,
 Assist customer in performing or validating project completion status
 Supply on-demand results for queries involving code-version, boot-image, mfg/model
roster sizes, etc.
Knowledge & Experience with:
 Experience configuring and maintaining IT infrastructure monitoring systems (Icinga,
Grafana, Nagios, OpenNMS, Cacti, Apache)
 Programming experience with Perl, PHP, AWK, and Python
 4 years of experience with Ubuntu; Unix and Unix variants: CentOS / RedHat, Debian, or
 Familiarity with Linux systems management, configuration, product installation,
command line environment, and shell scripting
 Basic Web/CGI development skills
 Basic experience using Microsoft Access
 Basic experience with SQL products, tools, and query syntax
 Design principles for local area networks
 Switching and routing protocols
 Wi-Fi Technology
 Network testing tools
 IP addressing and subnet schemes
 Voice over IP routing
 Industry standard network engineering specifications
 Brocade/Ruckus switching, Cisco switching and wireless, Extreme Networks, Transition,
and/or Meru devices
 Copper and fiber cable topologies and installation
 Microsoft Visio for Network Documentation
 Familiarity with CA Service Desk (user role)
 Familiarity with NMS applications, tools, and concepts.

 Familiarity with MIBs/SNMP configuration and queries across a wide variety of hardware
 Knowledge and experience with BGP and OSPF routing protocols is required.
 Experience with TCP/IP fundamentals and OSPF/BGP routing protocol concepts
 CCNA certification or equivalent experience with Networking fundamentals
 Experience with 802.11 concepts and technologies
Ability to:
 Analyze and solve complex networking problems
 Review and maintain health of network management systems
 Pay keen attention to detail and follow-through
 Display strong written and verbal communication skills to explain technical and scientific
ideas to management and technical audiences, as well as excellent organizational and
time management skills
 Gather feedback from end users and teammates and make systematic improvements
where necessary
 Review and evaluate IT system designs for compliance with organizational and industry
 Configure servers, computers, and a variety of networking equipment
 Track projects through Microsoft Project or similar management system
 Prepare clear and concise reports and technical documentation
 Set priorities and successfully complete tasks in a timely manner
 Analyze and interpret materials and problems involving rules, procedures,
documentation, and related matters
 Maintain effective relationships with coworkers, enterprise team members, and
representatives of manufacturers and other organizations
 Plan, organize, coordinate and direct complex network systems development projects
 Supervise and train technical staff
 Provide technical expertise and information regarding technological, practices, and
 Read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures
 Work independently with little direction to meet schedules and deadlines
 Maintain a calm and tactful demeanor

 Graduate of a recognized college or university with a bachelor’s degree in math,
computer science, information systems, electrical engineering, or a related field.
 Qualifying experience in addition to that listed above may be substituted for the required
education on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Certification:
 Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), CCNA Route and Switch, CCNA Wireless
 Linux+, RHCE, or LPI certifications are preferable
Condition of Employment
 A valid Nevada Driver License
 Must pass a criminal background investigation
