Job Title: Operations Research Developer

The Operations Research Developer within the Network Planning Department at Southwest Airlines will be expected to utilize analysis and technology skills to quickly capitalize on opportunities to create or change applications that unlock Network and Revenue opportunities, enable smarter decision making, and improve efficiency for the Department. Furthermore, this individual will be expected to be an innovative thinker with strong technical skills and applied knowledge from relevant industries, leveraging these strengths to help the continued training of the Team.

· Uses extensive technology skills (SQL, Python, R and Excel) and business acumen to develop, update, and maintain scalable applications, datasets, and automated processes to support Department
· Utilizes business and technology expertise to assist Technology Department with development and maintenance of Network Planning applications, including data infrastructure design and maintenance
· Implements quality checks to ensure all processes are running as scheduled and impact to performance is analyzed and tracked
· Provides appropriate written documentation of tools, processes, and projects
· Communicates recommendations, project updates, strategy decisions and new initiatives to Operations Research team and other Director-level SWA Leaders when appropriate
· Assists in training Network Planning employees on the department’s systems, analysis tools, and data sources
· Actively seeks new information sources; provide new insights and/or bettering the accuracy of current models
· Proactively identifies business problems and formulates solutions that mitigate or solve the identified business/process challenge; creating change that results in increased production efficiencies
· Demonstrates an excellent understanding of the business problem at hand as well as the broader impact across the wider commercial group and Company
· Communicates results to Department and Commercial Leaders utilizing strong visualizations that aid in telling the story behind the data
· Diligent and structured approach to work, comfortable working on projects with little to no direction and leading project groups; raises concerns when scope and or business ask does not align with time available
· Focused on ensuring that all work communicated is accurate and without defect or deficiencies
· Incorporates new models, techniques, visualizations, etc. into own work; shares learning with the greater Team
· Mentors less experienced Team members, providing advice on data sources, analytical/model techniques, the framing of complex business problems, and the presentation/communication of project results
· Establishes, fosters, and maintains trusting and collaborative relationships, building credibility with Peers and other Teams; understands the value in creating a network of partnerships throughout the organization
· Must be able to meet any physical ability requirements listed on this description.
· May perform other job duties as directed by Employee’s Leaders.

High School Diploma, GED or equivalent education required.

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986.
· Required, High School Diploma or GED  
· Required, Bachelor's Degree, Degree in Engineering, Operations Research, Data Science, Computer Science, Supply Chain Management, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Finance, or Business
· Preferred, Advanced Degree, Degree in Engineering, Operations Research, Computer Science, Data Science, or SCM
· Required, 5 Years’ Experience in optimization, simulation, data modeling, applied statistics, transportation, supply chain management, logistics, forecasting or operations
· Required, 4 Years’ Experience in analytical programming, query, or schedule/planning tools (SQL, Python, R, Alteryx, Excel, Tableau)
· Required, 2 Years’ Experience using presentation and visualization platforms (Tableau, PowerBI, Excel, R, python, etc.)
· Preferred, 1 Year Experience using version control software (Git, SVN, etc.)
· Ability to perform work duties from [limited space work station/desk/office area] for extended periods of time
· Ability to use a computer with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job
· Ability to bend, stand, and sit for extended periods of time
· Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines.

· Must be willing to work periodic evenings and/or weekends
· Must be able to clearly communicate meaning of complex principles and processes to all audiences both verbally and in writing
· Must be able to communicate accurately and concisely both orally and written in English
Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines.
