The Role
The Performance Team in Datalex are currently looking for a Performance Engineer to help drive performance analysis, optimization and scalability on Datalex’s Travel Commerce Platform. You would be working within our Performance and Scalability group, the role is ideally suited to candidates from development backgrounds with a keen focus on performance

Key Responsibilities
As a key member of the team, you are expected to have a holistic approach to help proactively drive the performance analysis. The ideal candidate will already be a seasoned performance engineer, with hands-on experience in high volume applications and scalable, distributed systems who will debug, measure, analyse and identify areas for continuous software improvement. You’ll have outstanding technical and communication skills, while being extremely adaptable, with an ability to rapidly learn new products and technologies.

Analyse architectures and designs for potential performance problems
Identify and eliminate any bottlenecks that degrade performance
Application and architecture code profiling
Ongoing monitoring of production performance
Profiling new features to make sure they will scale and perform before they ever reach production
Exhibit a high degree of skill in matrix management and ability to influence others
Ability to distill large volumes of data, quickly analyse scalability, capacity and performance issues
Essential Requirements

Undergraduate degree in Computer Science
Expert in Java and Java related technologies
Strong understanding of Java performance: garbage collection, heap dump analysis, tuning and Java profiling
Experience working with multi-threaded programming in high performance, distributed environments.
4+ years of hands-on experience with SOA, REST, Java Web Services, JMS, XML, JSON, and messaging techniques.
Proficiency in database systems – both Relational & NoSQL (Oracle, PostgreSQL, MongoDB)
Unix or Linux Experience
Problem Solver and Decision Maker
Strong analytical skills with a particular attention to detail
Experience with Performance, Load, Stress, and Scalability Testing
Be a Team Player encompassing an approachable manner
Coaching, mentoring and advising employees/team members

Desirable Skills
Experience with SOAPUI, Jmeter, Loadrunner, JProfiler, Jconsole, and system tools vmstat/top and Silk
Experience with Data Science and Big Data technologies, Hadoop, Hive, Spark, ElasticSearch
Systems Administration knowledge of Enterprise Software Systems
Production site management experience
Master’s or PhD Degree in related field of study
