This position supports a federal agency where the Karsun team is responsible for the operations, maintenance, and modernization of the middleware and database environments. All employees must be able to pass a Federal Suitability Check for a position of public trust. Successful candidates have previous experience managing large complex IT programs and have lead modernization efforts.
Position location is in Herndon, VA and requires one day a week in Washington, DC. A successful candidate will be able to provide oversight of IT operations which contains database and middleware technologies, achieving objectives and service level agreements while delivering optimization and modernization efforts in an agile environment for costs savings and reduction of legacy footprint.
Scripting/automation first approach to all database tasks including provisioning, managing and audit
Implementation and administration of RDS Aurora, Postgres, MySQL, MariaDB and MS SQL server in both AWS and on-premises infrastructure
Automate provisioning, monitoring of the database infrastructure
Setting up MySQL/MariaDB and Postgres HA clusters, cluster maintenance including administrating, monitoring, tuning and troubleshooting
Provide consistent database maintenance, optimization and best practices inputs to existing databases and applications including Oracle, Postgres, MySQL and SQL Server
Experience in DR planning and execution with RPO/RTO objectives
Data load/unload, import/export through versatility to adapt data tools, shell and ansible scripting for required tasks
Work with the Technical Architects, product owners and Senior DBAs to document scope, tasks, risks, dependencies and mitigation plans
Create and update support documentation and review of work product
Establish consistent maintenance SLA and performance reporting metrics
Establish and continuously enhance SOPs for all aspects of database operations
8+ years of work experience, with a minimum of 1 yr with AWS RDS Aurora, Postgres, MySQL/MariaDB, with at least 2 full lifecycle database implementations
2+ years in SQL analysis, development and troubleshooting activities, including data warehousing, analytical applications development and support
1+ years of exp in supporting DB environments
2+ years of enterprise database operations experience as primary DBA
Linux BASH/shell scripting skills are expected
Demonstrated understanding of data modeling and strong data analysis skills is a must
Ability to work under challenging deadlines and constraints, to deliver
Hands on development with Python and with git and ansible for a “documentation as code” approach
Functional experience in government related business around acquisition and contracts
Technically strong, R&D oriented working with motivation for self-driven learning will be an advantage
Experience with or exposure to CI/CD and repository tools such as Jenkins and Artifactory is an advantage
Willingness to gain training/certification in designated technologies
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline
The ability to successfully obtain and maintain a U.S. Suitability/Public Trust Background Clearance
