Title: Senior UX/UI Designer
Location: Chicago, IL or Fort Washington, PA
Duration: 9+ Months

About the position:
As a Senior UX/UI Designer, you will be involved in every aspect of the product development process, from supporting conceptualizing of ideas to tweaking pixels right before launch. Working closely with product managers and engineers —you will have a strategic role in defining the experience across our portfolio of products. The position requires a web development expert with some proven experience to work in a lean small tactical sprint team. At the core, need to be able to understand business needs, and turn that into a modern, eloquent, and functional web application.

Job Requirements:

Minimum of 8 years of proven UI design experience - Experience in front end web development
10+ years .NET developer experience, preferably with ASP.NET MVC, Web-API or .NET Core
10+ years scripting in C# and Javascript
50% Hands-On designing, developing, and implementing the company’s client facing web-based applications
50% Team collaboration in implementing new web based products
Firm understanding of responsive design and usability
Expert knowledge of typography and layout principles.
Advanced Sketch and Adobe Creative Suite skills. Proficiency in Photoshop and Illustrator; Zeplin, inVision, Axure and wire-framing tools or similar tools
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction Design or equivalent
Strong portfolio that illustrates abductive reasoning and problem-solving skills as well as an exceptional eye for detail in final products and interaction design.
Excellent visual design skills with solid understanding of human factors and its implications to UI design.
Experience in data visualization is a big plus.
Mastery of user-centered design principles and cross-platform, multi-channel development processes (responsive design).
Have worked in an Agile/Scrum environment.
Solid expertise in creating wireframes (low and high-fidelity) storyboards, journey maps, user personas, process diagrams and site maps.
Strong time management skills and the ability to be self-directed as needed.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to present a thought-out rationale for design decisions.
Experience gathering user feedback

Additional Requirements:

Experience with:
Current trends for UX/UI design and data visualization
Agile and/or Scrum development methods
Conducting or managing usability tests to validate design
Managing style guides and pattern libraries for large, complex projects

Other Desirable Skills/Experience:
Knowledge and appreciation of the advances in higher educational software, course materials, and digital publishing is a plus
Background and/or experience in educational technology and/or publishing
Comfort and/or experience in a startup environment
Ideal candidate is self-sufficient and highly motivated, self-directed and possesses high energy and a passion


Job Description / Responsibilities:

Apply design methods to translate user needs into intuitive interfaces.
Create mockups and clickable prototypes for web and mobile apps.
Work with design and development teams.
Maintain consistency of interactions across all products.
Conceptualize architectures, flow diagrams, and UI specifications.
Work on multiple projects simultaneously with the ability to prioritize effectively.
Manage complicated projects from start to finish.
Simplify complex content and ideas into functional, usable interfaces
Ensure existing UI guidelines and standards are followed during the development and maintenance of the product
Ability to quickly prototype clear, usable designs
Create and Translate low fidelity wireframes/UX prototypes into effective and appealing interfaces
Proactively recognize UX/UI gaps in design and propose solutions
Conduct and/or participate in product usability tests with users
Participating in research and user strategy for a growing education platform
Develop components of new applications using modern technologies.
Write tests to align with targeted project
Develop web interfaces using modern tool sets for various form factors.
