Smith and Nephew seeks a R&D Robotics Systems Engineer to participate in system definition through translation of customer needs into product requirements, system architecture development and system-level verification and validation planning. The R&D Systems Engineer will bring clear sense of urgency and demonstrated track record of driving innovation leading to the introduction of new technologies in the marketplace. Systems engineers serve as the interface between Healthcare Professionals, Marketing representatives, and Engineering teams to ensure technical excellence of product designs.
The Systems Engineer reports to the Senior Director, Systems and position will be based in Pittsburgh.
Perform system engineering and requirements management duties as part of cross-functional project teams:
Own requirements development for new features and feature upgrades
Maintain product requirements
Maintain traceability between requirements and from requirements to test activities
Publish requirements deliverables
Participate in system architecture and design activities
Participate in verification and validation planning
Support pre-clinical and clinical evaluations
Support system engineering and requirements management process improvements within the systems organization.
Remain current with the knowledge and practice of systems engineering and requirements management.
Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical, Electrical, Mechnical or Computer Engineering or equivalent; Graduate degree preferred
A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in systems engineering and requirements management.
A good understanding of design control and/or development of products in a regulated medical device industry.
Track record of successfully bringing products from concept to market on schedule & within budget is preferred.
Experience in computer assisted surgery or robotics preferred.
Understanding of hardware-software systems, requirements leveling, and interface requirements
Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment
Persistent, determined, self-motivated, keen to make an impact
Demonstrated ability to understand and comply with applicable FDA regulations and Company operating procedures, processes, policies and tasks
Ability to work within a cross-functional team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment
Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization
Experience using Cognition Cockpit, DOORS or other requirements management tool
